Among senior-oriented programs are seminars, craft lessons, a chess club, cards and games, Yiddish, a choral group, a quarterly magazine, Elderhostel classes, trips, water aerobics, and arthritis exercise. Special Sunday for Seniors features a performance or lecture and social time at 1 p.m. the first Sunday of the month. Activities are open to all faiths, and most are open to nonmembers for a small fee. Membership for seniors age 65 and older is $495 per single or $770 per couple for full rights, including sports and fitness. A social membership, which allows participation in classes, is $150.

Description: Serving city residents 60 and over, this center in a former elementary school offers such programming as low-impact aerobic exercise classes, a fitness room, a computer lab, and bridge. The Carnation Players write and perform two skits a year. Special social activities include the Carnation Supper Club, featuring dinner and entertainment on Tuesday nights; the annual May Gala dinner dance; and a prom with high school students. The center also sponsors about 40 day trips, four to five overnighters, and a cruise each year through the Trips and Tours program. An annual membership fee is required.
