I had the same pre-conception about the Germans, but after living there for a few months, I found them to have a pretty good sense of humor actually--mostly of the sick and twisted variety. I noticed people to be incredibly wary of anything that is not politically correct though, which was a bizarre mix.

Errr - we go for non-political correct jokes, but we don´t show it to the public , the problem is we´re educated to feel guilty about our history.
Speaking for myself, I love a dark, sarcastic and dirty kind of humor and, of course, Monty Python. I also love the Simpsons, it´s always a good hit on the american society.
I don't understand a lot of Asian humor. I have some relatives (by way of marriage) who are Japanese and most of the time I do not understand when they are joking. Their jokes just don't make sense to me. They do seem to find things funny at the expense of others. That kind of humor doesn't appeal to me.
i like american comedy like the simpsons (im watching now lol) family guy, reno 911 and lots of others, british comedy is brilliant a bit different in every country and ireland. i love i.t. crowd, peep show, the office and my fav scottish shows are still game and chewing the fat, i do like the scottish comedian frankie boyle, but a lot of people think he is a bit 'to much'. i have seen a little bit of australian comedy like cath and kim, i didnt really get it, but you are never going to get all different cultures sense of humour. i have meet a lot of funny polish people, but have not seen much of their tv lol
My mum is from Texas, and for whatever reason that woman cannot get sarcasm. I never met a lot of people in Texas with the sarcastic type of attitude though, so that's probably why.
People in Oregon/Washington/NorCal tend to be more cynical and dark like the British, maybe due to similar climates. My dad is from the Bay Area and has a more twisted sense of humour.
SoCal people don't care to hear a joke unless it takes less than 10 seconds to tell, at least in my experience.
Again, all my experience, it may be different for you.
