A number of buildings along North Frontage Rd in Manitowoc were torn down recently to make way for new development. I heard that a Panera Bread was going to open here in December, and I'm guessing that some new buildings will be constructed in that area as well. However, the city recently voted down a proposal to create a TIF district there, which would include the soon-to-be-constructed Meijer as well as some of the other developments in that area. So I'm wondering, are there going to be any other businesses opening in the area soon? How will the rejection of the TIF district affect any new development?

Meijer's was removed from the TIF district due to a conflict about it with the county and the city. They will start construction there in 2019. Other than that there are numerous new manufacturing facilities being constructed near that interchange and in the industrial park. Robinson Metal moved into the former Manitowoc Cranes facility.
