We're thinking about taking a last minute camping trip to Prairie du Chien or somewhere else along the Mississippi.

Does anyone have any favorite places to camp, hike, enjoy?

I'm talking about proper camping, in a tent.

Is it worth it to pull our boat over or should we just enjoy the area on foot?

Wyalusing State Park is one of my favorite places in WI.

Don't know if you could get in at the last minute but hiking the ridges and looking down on WI and MS rivers is awesome!!

We used to take a boat but not necessary to have fun.

Wyalusing State Park is one of the best in the state for camping. Get a campsite on the bluff top with a view, it's the best!

As luck would have it we landed at Wyalusing State Park and even though we rolled in at 8:30pm we were able to get a spot on the bluff overlooking the river! It's a great park! I was looking forward to the observatory but unfortunately severe thunderstorms rolled in both evenings/all night.

We hiked around Wyalusing and across the river in Effigy Mounds.

It's a beautiful area but it's hard to believe how different it is from Eastern WI.

I'm glad you enjoyed Wyalusing. We use to always camp there. Even when we still lived in Chicago it was a favorite destination.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. Too bad about the weather.

It made for a good adventure . It was nothing compared to the deluge we experienced in Banff, Alberta that collapsed our tent and flooded it when one of the kids left the door open.
