That's good to know. Can you fast travel to any planet/moon without going to orbit or does that only apply to locations within a planet?

Yep, anywhere in the world at any time. Well techically there are 3-4 "landing zones" for each planet, and you travel from there to an event/mission, but still no need for orbiting.

Wow, awesome game! We just got it and are loving everything about Destiny 2 so far, except for not having a sparrow...

I heard that sparrows are random drops this time.

You get your sparrow when you reach level 20. After that, the faster sparrows drop in cosmetic bundle sets you receive in lieu of leveling up.
