OP, have you spent a lot of time studying European history? If not, it might answer some of your questions.

What BNW said is correct. Vancouver's high rises are spreading upwards from central locations, instead of spreading outwards like London and Toronto. You have to remember that Vancouver is surrounded by obstacles like water and mountains which have put limitations on how far it can spread outwards

High rise buildings are spread out across London according to varying planning and sight lines laws in relation to London's 32 boroughs and the City of London.

However Skyscrapers, which I defined in a previous posts are mainly concentrated around certain areas including London's two main financial districts and a few other areas, and they are not spread out in the same way as smaller high rise buildings.

I think the key word here is " locations". To give those who don't know Metro Vancouver an idea, we have several high-rise clusters, with some buildings taller than what you find downtown.

As you point out, we don't really have much choice, being surround by water and mountains. Broadway is one area of Vancouver city proper seems to be the next place where high-rises are planned.

I agree Ive never heard of this term... I thought it was some type of military tower to keep out the Russians..

I was wondering does the UK have lot of commie towers? Is this more common in Russia and the Eastern Europe than the UK?

Big high rise apartments and high rise condos very common in Toronto and Vancouver.

I hear Canada mostly Toronto and Vancouver have more commie towers than the UK is that true? Does the UK have lot of commie towers?
The K started to build these residential flats around the 1960s but most have been a big failure with many being torn down... They were a quick fix for the poor housing in some cities that had to be demolished but they were never fit for purpose... offices yes.. homes never...

There are literally miles and miles of high tower flats in Beijing. The first eight floors have no lifts. Needless to say not many people in that city are overweight

Looking at those videos it seems high rise residential is more clustered in the UK unlike Toronto and also in medium to high density areas not put in low density areas in suburban setting like you see in Toronto.
