I just thought of this in anticipation of tonight's episode.
The shows keep reminding us that the competition for power is a game. From the reactions it appears that the Alicent/Aegon supporters on the council had been consulting, but that the Raenyra supporters were not, and were not prepared for the possibility that the other side had already plotted the coup that we saw develop.
Is there an argument that the best person to lead is the one who has the cleverest strategy, rather than the choice of the deceased king? (Obviously that still rules out Aegon, who is manifestly unfit.)

Isn’t that the unspoken Hightower strategy?
He maneuvered his daughter into the King’s bed, so she could provide heirs to contest who would rule, and then helped estrange Rhaenyra and her father so she was not there when he died, and then supported his grandson’s spurious claim to the Iron Throne?
Isn’t that always the unspoken justification for coups?
Could someone explain why Aemon is so much bigger/older than the boy who took his eye out? They appeared to be around the same age when that happened. Now Aemon is around 6' with bass in his voice and the other boys look like 8th Graders.

I am done with this show
I'm enjoying the show, but there's an aspect that I find annoying. I'm not sure how to put it in words...they don't do a good job of marking time. For example: Last night, Princess Rhaenyra gets the news about her dad, delivers a dead baby, has the funeral for the baby, and then meets with her advisors all within (seemingly) 24 or 48 hours.
It would be helpful to my lame brain if they'd say something like "3 weeks after delivering their dead child..." Or some such.
Also, I was wondering...do you think Rhaenyra refused help in delivering the baby because she didn't want Daemon's son?
I am enjoying it. I hope you find a show you enjoy.
I’m loving it! I mentioned before that I never read the books. I’m wondering if Luke was killed in the book (please no other spoilers). Heartbreaking scene. That look on Rhaenyra’s face!! Hell hath no fury like a mother scorned!!! I’m looking forward to season 2!
