Hey all. It looks like I'll have a promotional opportunity up in Syracuse and will be heading there in December.

I will be renting before I buy a house, so what neighborhoods should I look in first?

I just want a safe neighborhood, whether it be in or out of the city. I can always commute to work and nightlife.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Well, you probably wouldn't choose to live right in Syracuse but all of the outlying suburban towns have good schools and are safe.

Depending on the location where you will be working....there are great suburbs in the north, east or west.

In the Northern suburbs you'll want to look at Liverpool, Cicero, Clay, and Baldwinsville.

In the Western suburbs.... Camillus and Onondaga Hill.

In the Eastern suburbs.... DeWitt, Fayetteville, Manlius, and maybe Jamesville.

Most apartments outside the city are located in the northern suburbs, mostly in the Liverpool area.

Hope this helps!

Skaneateles is a nice lakeside community as well. I just wanted to give it an honorable mention (even though it is rather expensive in relation to the rest of the region). It is to the west of the city of Syracuse.

I'm glad this topic is here. It's just what I'm looking for because my husband is sending his portfolio around Syracuse in hopes to relocate up there from South Carolina.
