I really appreciate all of the responses to my post about Encanto. We hope to visit SD this summer to do more exploring and I anticipate using the forum to draw on the wealth of experience and candor of the contributors. Thanks again!

Is this neighborhood that bad? I checked the city crime map, and the area that borders Chollas Park/Lake seem to have very few crimes.

No way I would live in the SE area. Unless you want to join a gang. A friend of mine went to Skyline to check out a used car and was in the crossfire of a shoot out. He had to hide under a car until the police showed up

I have a friend that bought a house there over 30 years ago, still lives there, and has no problems. There are no more problems there than living in City Heights. I lived in SE San Diego for three years (Shelltown/Barrio Logan), and liked it a lot better than living in City Heights.

Lets just say Encanto is nothing like the Disney movie of the same name.
