Never have been to Utah, but it looks like I might just be heading that way to live. I think I need to be in between Provo and SLC because my profession is at universities and that would put me in driving distance of four or so universities.

I am thinking an area of good mormon/non-mormon mix, low crime, away from college student housing.

And what is this that I hear about traffic?

Default The answer is Draper.

In between Provo and Salt Lake. I would definately go with Draper, located in south Salt Lake Co. They're building a really nice townhome community up in Suncrest/Draper called Stoneleigh Heights starting in the 180's. Go to www.hamlethomes.com and you'll see pictures and video of the community.

From the Draper area approx 45-1hr drive due south. on I-15 to orem/provo area. Lehi area is nice approx 45 min drive due south on I-15 to same orem/provo.
Sandy City is also another option allow about 10-15 mins more. Centrally located would be any of the above. If you ski, hike etc, stick to Draper & Sandy.
Going the other direction, North, back to S.L.C. on I-15= 45 min or 1 hr.
Traffic on I-15 is nothing compared to Ca. traffic.
Wherever you go you will find a great mix of people.

I've toured the Townhomes in Suncrest and they are really nice. Most of the units with nice views have already been purchased though. A nice unit well equiped is about $220 K and up. The price of those town homes has skyrocketed in the past few months though. Suncrest is majestic, but don't forget they get 2-3x the snow as everyone else in the valley.
