I grew up all over AL, GA, and FL and Salt Lake City is overall my favorite place to live. Winter is definitely colder, but the dry cold is manageable. When it snows, which will be a couple times each winter, it melts off the road pretty quickly so at least you will be able to get around town safely.

There are definitely downsides - the cost of housing is high compared to wages and by mid-February each year the air quality gets me second guessing my decision. But access to the outdoors can't be beat. And, I think Salt Lake is a really well rounded city - not too much traffic and enough (at least pre-covid) restaurants, shopping, and cultural things to stay busy with.

When you buy a piece of Real Estate, do you buy for a few months or a few years?

You are speaking like a few years, since you only discuss Covid instances...

The Pandemic will end. It is NOT going to last forever!
