My family just returned from spending a week in your city and we all were surprised and impressed by how much character it has. The city has a grittiness (in a good way) we weren't expecting. The people were friendly and extremely active (despite the warm temps) and each neighborhood was different. The parks are great and plentiful throughout. Having such close proximity to the mountains was nice and traffic was not bad compared to what we face at home. Although the pandemic has cast an uncertain shadow over things, the mood in Salt Lake was upbeat.

The one negative is that the city has a homeless issue that is pretty much in your face wherever you turn, except in the upscale neighborhoods. I watched a video and it said some cities actually ship their homeless to Salt Lake?! There was some progressive program the city had in place to actually find them homes but I understand it ended in 2016? In any event, we really liked your city and will visit again soon...maybe even next month!

What a nice post! Considering the fact that 90% of the fun things to do in Salt Lake are currently not opening, I'm surprised we managed to leave such a good impression on you.

Yes, we do have a homeless problem. I can't imagine anybody actually "shipping" homeless to Salt Lake City, but they sure do manage to find their way here. We haven't stopped trying to deal with the problem, though. It's just hard to keep on top of.

We love the outdoors and much of what we wanted to do was available. I loved how active people were outdoors doing all sorts of activities. I suppose the many business closings may have contributed to that?

It isn't just a problem in Salt Lake, our city has a few blocks where the homeless have created a compound of sorts. It's sad to see the number of homeless people rising.

I'm glad you had a good time in our wonderful city. I'm proud of what Salt Lake has become, and I feel like it's only growing in it's character and vibrancy. Did you just come into town for recreation, and where did you visit from? We are definitely a city for the outdoors which is one of the main reasons I live her, which parks did you go to?

Yeah we have been having an issue with homelessness for many years. We previously had a centralized shelter on the west side of downtown, and it got so bad they shut it down and built three new shelters that are smaller and more spread out. Because of that it spread out the homeless more throughout the city, but I prefer that to what was happening before. The city is trying to be proactive, but like katzpur said it's a tough issue to stay on top of. Hope you visit again and thanks for visiting.

Our daughter lives there and we decided to spend our vacation with her. Even though it was a pretty warm week (mid to upper 90s) your temps were still 10-15 degrees cooler than temps in the greater Phoenix area. I especially love how it cooled off in the evenings and we took full advantage of it! In Phoenix you get radiant heat from the concrete in the evening after the sun goes down, which keeps things warm. We visited Sugarhouse park quite often and, I believe, Memory Grove? In addition we drove around the city to get a feel for the different neighborhoods and the various lookout points. Gotta admit, seeing all the outdoor activity was wonderful. Heck, we were just amazed to be able to be outside in July! I plan to visit again in a couple of weeks, but it will be a much shorter stay due to business.

The homeless problem is certainly not unique to Salt Lake. It is particularly bad in cities on the west coast like Portland and Seattle. What many of us tend to forget is just how high housing costs have become and how low wages are for people in entry level job positions. Add to that the problems of drug addiction/alcoholism and homelessness becomes an unavoidable problem in any major metropolitan area.

I am glad though this person enjoyed his visit to Salt Lake City.

We reap what we sow. Mitt Romney shipped Salt Lake's homeless folks to Vegas before the 2002 Winter Olympics.

Where have you been living? Lala Land ??
That statement is not true at all because it was "alleged" and never been proven true.

Interestingly, 5 years before that "rumour", it was an alleged statement but in reverse ...
Also never proven correct.

I really wish people would stop this nonsense "news" ...

Maybe you would like to provide some evidence that what you're claiming is true. Unless you find it to be an unreasonable request, that is.
