My husband and I are moving from the Vail area to Utah once our house here sells. I grew up in Utah but was near Ogden and am not familiar with SLC. We have been looking in the Summit Park area as we like to spend time hiking, snowshoeing, skiing, etc. My husband will likely work in Park City however the school we will send our future children to is near the U.

Unfortunately it will have to be a one or the other decision. There are no towns between the two -- just a canyon and a change in elevation of about 3000 feet. In good weather it's an easy commute. In bad weather it would be difficult. It snows a lot more up there and you are dealing with steep grades on I-80.

We noticed some areas like Summit Park that seemed pretty nice. Similar to where we live now. We are living at 8,000+ feet of elevation now, and had a big snow yesterday, so it sounds like a similar area. We loved the Draper area but will be sad to lose the ability to hike from the front door.
Any word on Summit Park or those small communities? Thanks for your help!

How about Millcreek, Holladay or Cottonwood Heights? Not as bad of a commute in the winter, good hiking in both Cottonwood Canyons and Millcreek Canyon not far away, less expensive and more kid oriented. Just a thought.

I live in East Millcreek and my wife and I love it! Olympus Cove is another beautiful spot!

AvonCo, My husband and I almost bought a house in Summit Park, but decided on East Millcreek instead and I'm very happy it worked out that way. We really like it here living on the east bench. Very close to all needs, good schools, and a fast drive to skiing. I can ride my bike or walk to Millcreek Canyon. Also, we have quick access to all the ski/biking/hiking areas along the Wasatch front, Summit Park is much closer to Park City, but farther from other places. We have a friend who is trying to sell his home in Summit Park and move down this way. He says he's tired of the commute, the cold (it is kind of shaded and icy most of the winter), and the isolation. But I know there are many up there who love it and wouldn't live anywhere else. I would visit and check out the area before you decide.
