My in-laws grew up in Edgemont, SD, he joined the Air Force and years later was stationed at Ellsworth AFB in Box Elder where the video was shot (they eventually retired to Piedmont, SD). My wife fondly remembers the kids climbing on base housing roofs and sliding down the drifts into the front yards of houses. And some people having to climb out bedroom windows on the clear side of the house, so they could shovel out the front and back doors.
Anyway, that's S.D. in the winter. The storm may have lasted longer than usual, but after spending many, many Christmases in Piedmont, it looks pretty familiar. Luckily the in-laws had good neighbors with plows or blowers on the front of their tractors, and they would clear the drift that formed during every storm across the in-laws ~100 yard driveway. They'd get just the one drift, but it'd be about 3 feet high and maybe 10 feet across. Too much for 70/80 y/o retirees to shovel.
Enjoy the chinook winds. They are very welcome!!

Yes, the SD winters take some getting used to. The winters along the front range in Colorado, and the ones in eastern Oregon didn't seem as intense, normally. They did get their blizzards though. Loving the snow eater winds the last several days, very nice. Today is upper 40s so far. I can deal with that.
