Does anyone know is there a road that cuts from Nemo Road to Sturgis Road? We are looking at a home out by Johnson siding but would like to see if anyone knows a shorter way of getting to Piedmont rather than driving all the way down to Rapid then up again?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Yes vanocker canyon road. It is paved. If you live in or near Johnson Siding you'd take Norris Peak road over to Nemo and pick up vanocker canyon. I'll get to a real computer and find a map to look it all up for specifics. .

Nemo to Sturgis RD... Okay I reread this. The first is the way into Sturgis. Vanocker canyon rd. There is forest service roads that come off Vanocker into Piedmont. Last time I was on the road was June of 1992 on an adventure with my dad.

There are some gravel roads that you can snake your way into Black Hawk from Nemo but I have not traveled them. You'd almost be ahead to run across on Norris Peak Road to Nemo and down into west Rapid and hang a left on Sturgis Road and hoof it across.

I think it is faster to just go 44 into town, then left on Sheridan Lake to W Main/Sturgis Rd. We lived in Johnson Siding until this fall and 44 to town is so fast it is always the best way to Rapid City no matter where you are going. The state takes great care of it in the snow too. Norris Peak is very curvy and Nemo Rd isn't much better.

I lived in Johnson Siding for 4 years. It is wonderful out there if you don't mind being that far out of town.

I did find a Shortcut to Piedmont from that area last May. It wasn't exactly as the map stated, nor was it paved, nor fast. It would really be fun on a dirt bike. It kinda trashed my Subie AWD Rental car with 106 miles on it (whoops) I guess I got carried away thinking I was a ralley driver ...

I lived out past Johnson Siding for many years and often went to dances in Black Hawk. The fastest most effecient route is to head into Town on 44 down to the nursing home and bear left.

There are a couple of gravel roads that will take you across to the Black Hawk area from the Nemo road, but time is not on your side, neither is miles driven. Very curvy and not well maintained in the winter except where the School Bus runs. They do blade those areas.

Thanks everyone. That's pretty much what I thought. I've tried a few of the gravel roads that appear to make it all the way through on google but they dont actually go all the way through. Down to rapid and back up is probably fastest. Thanks!
