Is there a trick to using it? Doesn't seem to do anything. I have static and mild buzzing on my new Magnasonic AM/FM clock radio when I listen to AM. Reception is fine otherwise. My Sanjean isn't as bad with static.
The wire is for FM only. The AM antenna will be inside the unit. Unfortunately due to the size limitations the AM antenna is inefficient due to its reduced size. Try turning off computers, flouresant lights, cell phone charges near the unit to eliminate interference, along with turning the unit to find a sweet spot for reception.

The Magnasonic radio is plugged in with a lamp but still has static with the lamp off. Maybe my neighbor who lives on the other side of the wall is the problem. Strangely, the other radio, Sanjean, sits on top of my fridge and has better reception.
You shouldn’t compare the two radios, the Sanjean is simply a better product.
The problem with poor reception and static can be caused by several different factors. You’re correct your neighbor on the other side of the wall may cause part or all of the issue. However you can try a few different things to help reduce the static.
I’ve found that an AM radio works much better if it’s on the floor. I know that sounds stupid however in a large office building I’ve received much better radio signals when the radio is sitting on the floor instead of the desk. Moving the radio around in different positions can help. Also moving it to another location within the room, or even a different room can improve the radio performance.
It requires isolating the cause of the issue or isolating the best location for the radio to work in.
Thanks for all your suggestions. I'm getting used to the static now so can't be bothered!
