The players don't want it and the owners and fans do. How about just making a rule that the players can only play in 16 games, having to be a scratch on 2 games per year. That would really put pressure on the coaches to know when to sit a star player or would get a injured player a week or 2 off at the perfect time. It would also make backup players more important. No more off weeks for the whole team. What do you think? Has anyone heard this idea before?

Well this fan does not want it - the season is long enough; scratch 2 preseason games and keep the 16 game schedule; this to me would be better.

I don't want 18 games, the old cba was fine. All these new rules and the possibility of 18 games in stupid to me.

It is fine the way it is.

I like your idea. I'd love having more games and keeping all the pre-season too.

I don't want 18 games. That makes the season too long. In addition too many players will be injured.

Im definitely against 18 games...it will really become a season of attrition then--too many players wont finish the season...

The NFL likes to say fans want it. They did a poll recently and it was less than 50% that wanted it. So I while SOME fans may want it, I don't think a majority do. In fact, I think the majority wants it to stay at 16.

I could watch pro football year-round. It would require more teams and leagues obviously - but there it is. All it would need to survive is a market (people like me). Many stadiums go unused and must be multi-use in order to survive.
There would probably be an outcry from the "competition" (baseball).
