Received a surprise today when I checked my primary checking account balance. IRS sent my tax refund and was credited this morning.
I had filed with Turbo Tax on the 26th of January and the IRS accepted it on the 29th. That's less than a week between acceptance and payment. This was not a simple return. Multiple income sources, sale of a home, etc. No business income, so could have been much more complicated.
Meanwhile, we are still awaiting PA refund for 2022. I think we will have to tell them to apply it to 2023!
Sorry about that. States do tend to be slower than the IRS in my experience. This year filing both Virginia and North Carolina. I expect the North Carolina one to be very slow.
One of my daughters lives in Minnesota but has to file a Pennsylvania return just because she visited her mom and "worked from Pennsylvania" for two weeks. Some of the states' newish "work from home" rules are crazy.

That's great the refund happened so quickly for you.
I've been lucky so far and have had quick processing for federal and state so. I'm still waiting on a few 1099s but I've plugged in the stuff I do have so it shouldn't take long after those things trickle in. I'm in no rush though as I'm expecting to pay this year after selling a 2nd home.

That's great. Hopefully no penalties.
I was worried a bit this year about 1099-K's from Paypal or Venmo. Last year they caught me by surprise by arriving after I submitted my return. I didn't meet the threshold for reporting, but they sent them to the IRS anyway, so I had to do an amended return ( no difference in tax ). 1099-INTs all arrived here on time, so no worries. I also got a 1099-S for the sale of my primary home, but no impact on taxes.
I'm hoping on no penalties as well. I didn't really have much control on the sale as it was a partition action. Once I set it in motion, the sale happened when it did. I did get a federal refund last year so I'm assuming since I paid 100% of my taxes last year, I won't get penalized.

It must be nice to get a refund rather than paying out. I try to avoid lending the government my money interest free by coming out close to what I owe, usually I will pay $200-300 in April. Then last year due to unusual circumstances I had to pay out $8,000. Hopefully this year it will be closer but I'm waiting until about April 10th to do mine.

Methinks you are more sensible than I am. I just like the "feel" of the refund. I do try to calculate my withholding so I am always "somewhat over" what I owe, enough to feel good but not enough to think I have lost much.
I have to write a fat check this year… So I’ll be waiting until April to file. But, normally, when I do get a refund, it is very quick, usually within a week. And I always get my state before I get my federal.
