The correct spelling and pronunciation is Sichuan. There is one place in Westfield, pretty authentic and run down place but expensive too.

“Americanized” Chinese: Chinatown Gourmet Kitchen in Lodi. They’re the best!

Hunan taste is nasty and not Sichuan and they don't do dim sum

I haven't been to any this year. Sigh.
Thanks. Sunny Palace is also listed as permanently closed. Can't wait to try the other 2 out once it's safe, hope they can hang on.

No love for Chengdu 23 in Wayne? Their Sichuan stuff is terrific.

That's a damn shame, as that place was really good. I would venture to say that they had the best authentic Chinese food in Central NJ.

Just for the record, not to argue ... the Chinese restaurants in NJ are quite good and Chinese people from NYC know about the ones here.

Also, if you know anything about the way most Chinese people operate, they're certainly not going to pay a ton of $$ or travel crazy distances for Chinese food, so the 'best' restaurant is most often the decent place with good prices.

'Best' depends on your tastes.

Chinese people like big dishes and family dinners with tons of seafood and vegetable dishes.

American people like dishes with a lot of starch and with large meat portions.

Hunan Taste in Denville is almost PF Changs. But I like it!

'Authentic' runs the gamut. If you're adventurous, go on Yelp and if you live near Edison, just try all the different restaurants there. All of them offer something different.r

Recently there has also been an explosion of 'Asian' restaurants for younger people. Mongolian hot pot and desert shops, and Malaysian food etc.

Don't forget about loads of gloppy sauce, unlike authentic Chinese food. A friend, who used to own a Chinese restaurant, had to remind his chef that "Gweilo like a LOT of gloppy sauce".

The gloppy sauce is the part I hate!
