Hi, anyone live in MacDonald Ranch? Any details on the area would be greatly appreciated, such as crime, safety, shopping, noise/traffic. Our father is looking to move there and we want to make sure it's a good area for him. TY!

I don't live in MacDonald Ranch, but I have several friends who do, and I live 10 minutes from that area.

MacDonald Ranch is a nice, safe area with easy access to shopping. No noise to speak of. Because of increases in the number of residents throughout Henderson & Las Vegas, traffic on arteries can be an issue depending on the time of day, but it is nowhere close to the bone-crushing soul-sucking traffic of Los Angeles or Silicon Valley.

You didn't mention other evaluation criteria such as health care/medical specialists. If your father has unusual or unique health care issues, it would be wise to evaluate availability of the specialists. And, of course, weather: some people relocate to Las Vegas only to discover they just can't handle summertime heat.

I find the MacDonald Ranch area extremely congested and the proliferation of apartment buildings in the area is bringing in a bad element.

I live close (Seven Hills) and drive by it on my way to Whole Foods. The surrounding area is OK, but I chose not to buy there. I suggest looking at Sun City Anthem or even Sun City Summerlin if your father wants a 55+ community. The amenities (club houses etc) in Sun City Anthem are unparalleled in my opinion.

Perhaps the poster can clarify if he/she means the broader MacDonald Ranch community or Sun City MacDonald Ranch (the 55+ community)? They are two very different things and our answers would differ. To illustrate, Sun City Anthem and Sun City Summerlin are large age-restricted communities within or adjacent to the even larger Anthem and Summerlin communities.

Sorry, I'm not buying that at all. That area around Horizon Ridge & Green Valley Parkway gets congested during the rush hours just like every place does. The apartments around there are all high-end and expensive. Do a search and look at the types of homes for sale. That area is safe and one of the better areas in the valley.

I'm around there all the time and do not see many people, if any at all, that could be considered a "bad element." That's a ridiculous and misinformed thing to say and just not true.

I meant MacDonald Ranch (not Sun City). Any information you can provide would be helpful- thank you!

OK -- thanks for the clarification. I live about a 5 minute drive away from the extreme western edge of MacDonald Ranch and pass through parts of it each week. It seems like a nice area, with well-maintained properties, convenient shopping and many of the City of Henderson amenities like libraries close by.
