With these cases because he was never tried in a court the evidence might be witness based they could be dead or can't be found. Their memory of the event since it's been 40 years might be difficult to recall.

I have seen some of these where they plea deal the guy never gets any prison time life time parole he is so old being a felon doesn't really matter at this point he isn't working anymore.

Well...they had his fingerprints, so they had THAT evidence anyway.

For all the reasons you mentioned, he might never do time...but he SHOULD be prosecuted anyway. Whether he did it 40 years ago, or last month, a crime is still a crime, and murder is still murder.

I thought it would be another case of family tree DNA solving the case but it was his fingerprints that did him in.

I'll be shocked if he lives another 2 years. He looks like he's in bad shape

Mason, who lived and worked in the area, was the primary suspect in the murder, according to the police. The Custer County Sheriff's Office, FBI and the Idaho Department of Fish and Game attempted to track Mason down but he eluded them.

Decades later, on October 10, Mason was located and his identify confirmed by matching his fingerprints, the sheriff's office said.

More information about the murders he was angry at his wife suspecting she was sleeping with another guy who ended up being shot in the head.

The guy might look like he's in bad shape because the justice system finally caught up with him!

Im sorry, but NO judge or DA in their right mind would ever put an 86 yr old in prison (even if they are guilty), Ive seen a couple cases like this before, usually they have a trial, and convict them, but the judge dismisses the sentence. Its really not even worth putting them on probation for, because, at that age, its doubtful they are even able to commit crimes anymore.

35% of all murders in the US are never solved. They need every one they can get, so as to not look so foolish and incompetent. It "doesn't do any good" to catch people after they're dead, since the only purpose of the criminal justice system is to vindictively destroy the lives of perps and their families.

Hang him . Death penalty is legal in Idaho, and they last hanged someone in 1957. Now it can be 2020.

A murderer destroys the life of someone else and that person’s family first. A murderer has destroyed his or her (usually his) own life, and his or her own family is collateral damage, more victims of that person’s choices.
