She might have eaten the blob if she had a calcium deficiency. Certainly not unheard of, part of natural instinct. The mother will not sit the chicks/eggs 24/7. Mother bird will leave the nest if she feels the chicks/eggs are too warm with her in there.

I observed her the past two days. Looks like she is doing a pretty good job of her eggs. Slimy ugly black egg that I should post a picture of (gross egg) been gone; cracked egg (thin shell? Nest attacked by another bird? Seemed to be a hollow egg) is also gone. Three remain. Not sure if they are hollow. Mom seems to be doing a good job. Male bird is back in. She seems like she could happily spend the rest of her life with him. They play together, he feeds her, he follows her around the cage.

Another female bird I have is in the second box. Been in there for a few days. I took her out today, to see if she was sick or dying; she "fast squawked" at me. She is fine. She went back in her box about an hour after I inspected her (is she healthy, does she look sick. She does not.) She appears to have won, there were about four female birds "fighting" over that box. One carved the corner with her beak, wood box. Another went in. This one, she is in there now. No idea if she has an egg in her or not.

So.. Mom bird is diligently sitting on her three eggs and may even lay another, as the male mates her rather constantly. The other bird is spending a lot of time in the other box.

I also did not know that parakeets like to eat hardboiled eggs, and cheese. I like to give them broccoli, when broccoli is available. I need to get more broccoli.

Price of pellets went up. 10lbs bag was $20; now is $31 maybe more. I got the last of a 25lbs pellet bag for $65. Cheapest place online to buy pellet food?

Pics aside, she laid another egg.

Back to 4 normal-looking eggs again. Parakeet eggs are so small. I wonder if one my Englishes will lay.

Now, will they hatch...
