Texas tops the list. So, if Texas takes the number one spot for worst state to live and work. Hey, I'm happy Alabama made the list. But the factors that give these states the top spot are a host of reasons that are tied to politics. I mean these rankings include reproductive rights and inclusiveness. LOL!!!! I think Alabamians should take this as a plus.
I posted that CNBC link in the city vs city general subforum but it was deleted because it apparently cast these states in bad light.

It's strange how Mississippi didn't make the list. Interesting

Who comes up with these lists? Texas as the worst state to live in??? Ridiculous. That's like saying "Trees are bad!" because one fell on your house last week.

Texas has a lower cost of living than Calif. which is why thousands of Californians are moving there every year. It's considered business friendly which is why many large corps. such as Tesla have relocated there, particularly to Austin.

Texas is enormous and has everything. You can have big city, burbs, small town, or rural with vast horizons. Take your pick. Coastal, inland, forest, prairie. Probably the one thing they lack is mountains. So hop on the I-40 to Flagstaff, or north to Colorado for vacations.

As for politics, you can live in conservative areas or very liberal spots such as Austin. People are generally very friendly and welcoming. I don't live in TX (sister & mom do) but would move there in an instant, if my work took me there (& could convince the wife).

I can't speak to Alabama as #4 because honestly I have never had the pleasure of visiting. But I have heard nothing but good about the place and the people.

There is literally no state in America where one won't experience racism. Some places are more in-your-facr with it than others.

As for starting a business. I tried it and failed. That's why I work for someone. Not saying being an entrepreneur is a bad. Just saying people do what they have to do to get paid.

And all I get out of your post is this "tough guy" lack of empathy mentality.

One thing about this list. One size doesn't fit all. Some places are better for some people than others.

No tough guy. I just don't have empathy for grown men "sorry". But I would stay away from people at work who talk politics you don't like and just get paid. Because at the end of the day "those people don't matter".

Wait... how can you say that their political points of view (not arguing whether or not they should have discussed it at work) are intentional racial microaggressions? It could be that they were just stating their opinions with no thoughts about who was in their company at the moment. It's not always a race thing.

Please correct me - aside that it is generally not advised to discuss sex, religion and politics at work - coworkers having a conversation about a political figure/party is racial microaggression? What is you brininging up your disagreement with themon CD?

There's a not insignificant % of people who subscribe to the same political views as the NBC folks (almost certainly based in NYC) making those lists, but a much much smaller % of people who are ever affected by any of those things in their actual daily lives. Hence why those 'worst' states to live have been the major destination states for domestic migrants over the last 10-20 years.

I suspect many people in those Southern states actually wish that the political climate was more of a deterrent to newcomers from out of state.
