Steinbeck's Spirit of Monterey Wax Museum

Steinbeck has been an important writer in history, especially to Monterey, California. In honor of this writer there is the Steinbeck's Spirit of Monterey Wax Museum. It is one of the newest attractions on Cannery Row, at 700 Cannery Row. The museum has over 100 life sized wax figures. These figures are of important people from London and Paris. There are also many scenes relating to Steinbeck's books with animation and special effects.

Part of the delight at the wax museum is that guests feel like they are stepping into a time machine. They can look back at over 450 years of Monterey history through the wax creations. Admission is $10 per person.

There are sections that have buttons for guests to push. These buttons start audio and visual files to gain more information about the exhibit one is looking at. Some of the wax figures include conquistadors, Indians, a friar, Don's of California, and young children.

The wax museum is meant to be a place of living history in wax for both adults and children. With many exhibits the museum has a lot of kitsch, meaning they are stacked rather tight and close together.
