La Mirada, Monterey

Located in a historic neighborhood of Monterey, La Mirada is a contemporary gallery and event locale of the Monterey Museum of Art. Just blocks from the heart of downtown Monterey, this historic estate features lavish rose gardens and elegant architecture.

La Mirada was converted from an adobe Mexican residence to an elegant estate. The Dart wing was added in 1994 to house contemporary exhibits and offers excellent views of Monterey Bay.

Visitors can travel west on Fremont Street a few blocks to visit La Mirada's sister museum, MMA Pacific. Together the museums display a plentiful collection of photography, early California painting, and contemporary art and feature such artists as Ansel Adams, William Ritschel, and Edward Weston.

La Mirada is open to the public from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sundays. Photography of the permanent collection is permitted, but not of the loaned exhibits. Food and beverage are not allowed in the gallery. The venue is available for weddings, meetings, and other special events.

La Mirada is a 1.5 hour scenic drive away from the San Jose International Airport and is within a mile or two of other attractions, including Point Sur Historic State Park, Monterey Sports Center, and Monterey Bay Boat Charters.
