Pebble Beach Golf Course

Pebble Beach Golf Course, located in near the lush Del Monte Forest in California is perhaps the most famous golf course in the world. Most of golf's greatest legends like Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Arnold Palmer have all teed up at the course. The course was created in 1919 and has an illustrious past full of championship moments. The first major hosted at Pebble Beach was the 1926 U.S. Amateur, which was won by Harrison Johnston. Its first U.S. Open took place in 1972 and was won by golf legend Jack Nicklaus. The 100th U.S. Open was played at Pebble Beach Golf Course in 2000 and was won by golfing great Tiger Woods. Woods won the match by a staggering 15 strokes and tied the lowest score ever for a national championship.

Pebble Beach was designed by two golfing amateurs; Jack Neville and Douglas Grant. Neither Neville nor Grant had any golf course design experience. The two ended up designing a championship course which has seen very few changes even till this day.

One of the few changes was the new 5th hole designed by golfing great Jack Nicklaus. Nicklaus designed the new 5th hole on a piece of prime ocean front land. Nicklaus has gone on to be as talented of a golf course designer as he was a golfer. He was named golf course designer of the year in 1993 and 1999.
