Description: The museum, with a permanent collection totaling over 5,000 works from the 20th and 21st centuries, moved into the Overture Center for the Arts in 2006 after being housed in several locations over its 100-plus year existence. The 51,500 square feet of space includes Henry Street Gallery on the lower level, State Street Gallery, and a 230-seat lecture hall on the 1st floor. The 2nd-floor has Main Galleries, New Media Gallery, Works-on-Paper Study Center, and the rooftop Sculpture Garden. The glass prow of the building overlooks State Street and encloses the stairs up to the roof. A museum store sells crafts and jewelry, while Fresco, the museum’s rooftop restaurant, offers a contemporary American menu emphasizing local, seasonal ingredients, and a full bar. The First Friday Rooftop Series combines live music, cocktails at Fresco, and an art talk or activity. These events cost about $5 for nonmembers of the museum. Check the online calendar for the museum’s many special events. Closed on Mon. Admission to the museum and most events is free.
