Retirement - San Antonio, Texas

Retirement

With its high standard of living, favorable cost of living when compared with many other cities its size, and good climate, San Antonio is considered one of Texas’s top retirement spots. The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce estimates that retirees make up about 15 percent of the city’s population. Many are active participants in the city’s art scene, ecotourism, volunteerism, and employment worlds.

Many of San Antonio’s retired residents live in the northwest portion of the city, at the entrance to the Hill Country. The northwest communities of Bandera and Kerrville are especially popular with active retirees who enjoy a small-town atmosphere. North of Austin, and about 90 minutes from San Antonio, Sun City Georgetown (www.delwebb.com) offers an extensive retirement community akin to Arizona and Florida’s Sun City facilities.
