This newly renovated independent-living facility, a favorite among retired midtowners, has about 130 apartments, ranging in size from efficiencies to three-bedroom units. There’s an “anytime” dining policy, so residents can have their three meals a day as they wish, ordering from the menu. Daily activities are available, and services include transportation, weekly housekeeping, 24-hour nursing support, and an emergency response system. The Parkview offers only limited assisted-living services, but residents are free to hire personal sitters as needed. The property is gated, with 24-hour security.

Description: There’s a definite international flair at Plough Towers, an independent-living facility where many residents speak Russian. The 11-story, high-rise facility has 150 one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments and serves a noon meal five days a week. On the premises you’ll find a computer center, library, convenience store, physical therapy center, and beauty shop. A full calendar of activities is available. There’s also a full-time social worker on staff, and a doctor, podiatrist, and psychologist visit each week. Limited transportation services also are available, and because it’s a government rent-assisted building, the monthly fee is determined by income. Plough Towers is overseen by the Memphis Jewish Housing Development Corp.

Description: Formerly University of Memphis women’s dormitories, the two 10-story towers presently operate as an independent-living facility with 396 efficiencies and one-bedroom apartments. Wesley Highland Towers offers three meals a day in its cafeteria, a wellness program, transportation services, a beauty shop, and a sundry store. There are some activities and social functions, too. Rental assistance is available for qualified residents through HUD. Residents of the tower who need assisted-living or nursing-home care are given priority at Wesley’s other facilities, where those services are available. Wesley is convenient to the University of Memphis, a plus for residents interested in taking classes on campus.
