City: Memphis, TN
Category: Annual Events & Festivals
Telephone: (901) 276-7222
Description: This is the biggest street party in midtown, as the hip, artsy Cooper-Young neighborhood rolls out the red carpet every fall. The festival, started in 1988, today draws more than 40,000 people, who flock here to enjoy the arts and crafts, food vendors, people watching, and, of course, beer. Booths line the streets, and local musicians take to the stages at this all-day event. Admission is free, and parking is every man for himself. The festival is usually held the third weekend in September.

22. Beale Street New Year’S Eve Celebration
City: Memphis, TN
Category: Annual Events & Festivals
Telephone: (901) 526-0110
Description: On New Year’s Eve Beale Street is to Memphis what Times Square is to New York City, namely, the place where crowds gather to bring in the New Year. It’s a huge, rowdy outdoor party, whether there’s an organized event or not. The clubs on Beale Street are hopping as well, offering live music as well as libations and respite from the cold, while there are often bands, such as the North Mississippi Allstars, playing in W. C. Handy Park, too. Most years sponsors set up a stage, on which an official countdown takes place.
