Description: Oklahoma City has two airports, Wiley Post Airport located in Bethany and Will Rogers World Airport in southern Oklahoma City.Wiley Post Airport is a haven for business, corporate, and general-aviation travelers. It is home base for nearly 400 aircraft, ranging in size from single-engine planes to corporate jets. Over 80,000 flight operations were logged here in 2008. Owned and operated by the Oklahoma City Department of Airports, this airport is designated as a reliever for Will Rogers World Airport. Large commercial airlines do not fly in or out of Wiley Post, so it is less known to travelers than the larger Will Rogers World Airport. Will Rogers World Airport is the way most commercial-flying visitors arrive in Oklahoma City. Named after the famous humorist and Oklahoma native, Will Rogers, this terminal sits on a little over 8,000 acres. Dedicated in 1966, it services over 1.9 million passengers per year. In 2000, an expansion project began that was completed in 2006 at an estimated cost of $110 million. This expansion increased the size and functional area of the terminal. The expansion went east, west, north, south, and up. It increased the lobby, gate hold area, and common use area; updated concessions; and improved passenger circulation. Not as big as O’Hare International Airport in Chicago or even Dallas Love Field, the Will Rogers terminal has two levels. On Level 1, travelers will find airline baggage claim and rental cars. More on rental cars later. On Level 2, visitors will find ticket counters and airline gates. There are escalators, stairs, and elevators that carry travelers between floors. Level 2 has a smoking lounge, coffee shop, bar, a place to purchase snacks, and retail areas. A vending area is located on the east end of Level 1. Restrooms are located throughout, with two on Level 1 and four on Level 2. The airport is serviced by six airlines: American, Delta, Continental, Frontier, Southwest, and United. Approximately 80 flights go out per day. They fly nonstop to 20 destinations, most with major connecting hub airports like Denver, Dallas, and Las Vegas. When you fly out of Will Rogers, it is usually a good idea to arrive early, at least an hour and a half, so there’s plenty of time to check in and make it through security. Contact your airline to find out what it recommends. Some airlines may move faster than others. Some days and times may be better. The wait at airport security checkpoints can vary quite a bit depending on all these factors. Just because you made it through in 10 minutes one day, does not mean that it will take 10 minutes next time.If you are driving to the airport, you need to know that no vehicle can be left unattended within 300 feet of the terminal and any vehicle left so will be ticketed and towed. Drivers also cannot park at the curb to wait for arriving passengers. If the passenger is not at curb yet, drivers need to loop around and come back or take advantage of the one hour of free parking in the parking garage. After the free hour has passed, the charge is $1 per hour, or $23 a day. If visitors need to park long-term, they can choose from the five-level garage just north of the terminal, semicovered shuttle parking, or shuttle parking. The fee for the garage and semicovered shuttle parking is $5 a day, or $25 a week. Long-term shuttle parking is $4 a day, or $20 a week. All garages are clearly marked and navigating is fairly simple as long as visitors follow signs.
