The 750,000-square-foot, $195-million facility features a Bariatric Wellness Center that has been named a Center of Excellence by The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. The complex also includes the Atrium Family YMCA and the Avalon retirement and assisted living community. The new Greentree Health Science Academy holds classes here in a partnership between Atrium and local universities and technological career schools to develop and train the next generation of health care workers. The genesis of Atrium Medical Center began in 2000. After more than 80 years at its McKnight Drive location in Middletown, executives at Middletown Regional Hospital realized that to meet growing regional health care needs, the hospital must expand. Because the facility had become landlocked over the decades, the decision was made to relocate closer to Interstate 75.
