Address: Nags Head–Manteo Causeway
Description: If you’re interested in what the boats are catching in the Gulf Stream, head over to Pirate’s Cove Yacht Club between 4 and 5 p.m. When the charter boats return to their slips, the catches of the day are thrown out on the docks to be picked up by the fish cleaners. Visitors are welcome to stroll along the boardwalk and watch. You might see tuna, wahoo, dolphin (the fish, not the mammal), cobia, or any of a number of fish. This is especially exciting for kids, who may not have seen such big fish before. If you would rather see the fish on the end of your own line, charter opportunities are available at Pirate’s Cove.

Description: Silver Bonsai Gallery, nestled in one of the island’s original homes, is a distinctive art gallery. Owners Ben and Kathryn Stewart, both metalsmiths and bonsai artists, sell their own creations here, as well as the works of other artists, and can often be seen at work in the studio at the back of the gallery. The Stewarts create simple yet elegant silver and gold jewelry and sculpture and design special pieces upon request. The gallery sells a broad range of fine art by local artists, including paintings, wood, glass, sculpture, quilts, and more. Silver Bonsai is open seven days a week, but closes for the month of Jan.
