Description: In 1994 it looked like Wiscasset was going to lose a bit more of its precious open space. A 60-acre local farm was up for sale and could have well become condominiums or another convenience store. But a group of concerned citizens built a nonprofit corporation, purchased the land, and thus Morris Farm was born. Today it’s a working farm and educational center set up to celebrate an agricultural way of life that’s becoming endangered in Maine (and everywhere else, for that matter). Children come for summer camp; there’s a great farm store with Morris Farm’s own organic milk, free-range eggs, broilers, and turkey at Thanksgiving; garden tours are hosted; educational seminars are scheduled; and the public is welcome to stroll the grounds with its barns, meadows, woods, and waterfall from dawn to dusk. You’ll want to move back to the land. Free.
