Description: This place always looks so appealing to travelers motoring up I-95, sitting on a hill overlooking the tidal Cousins River. And it is, with 25 acres to wander, a nice pool, a great little on-site cafe, and rental canoes to explore the river and salt marsh. More motel than inn, it’s now a Best Western property and features 80 rooms, which have been spruced up lately, and they’re plenty comfortable, with private baths, cable TV, air-conditioning, phones, Wi-Fi—some even have water views. Just across the river is the Topside Building, which is quiet and offers even better views and easy access to the Muddy Rudder, a popular local eatery. Pets are allowed in many rooms, and there’s a kids’ play area outside, which makes the place a nice choice for families. The on-site Freeport Cafe has its own following, serving breakfast all day, and the shops of Freeport are moments away up Route 1. Open all year.
