Description: St. Timothy’s was founded in 1882 and merged with the Hannah More Academy, the oldest Episcopal girls’ boarding school in the country, in 1974, Today, the expanded St. Timothy’s offers boarding and day school from grades 9 through 12. With 70 percent of its students living on campus and a student-to-faculty ratio of 5 to 1, St. Timothy’s girls receive close attention in a community atmosphere that seeks to “develop each person’s ability to live thoughtfully in a community of diverse and unique individuals.” Academically, St. Tim’s is competitive, with 100 percent of its graduates heading for higher education. St. Timothy’s also offers The Global Immersion Program that explores world issues through unforgettable learning experiences by understanding relationships between cultures, showing sensitivity to others in the world, and possessing global awareness. Throughout the students’ tenure, the school offers off-campus experiences through a program called Connections, in which students study the political, social, economic, and cultural aspects of Baltimore, Annapolis, and Washington, D.C. And in the senior year, students perform three weeks of independent study in which they become corporate interns. Students interested in athletics can participate in eight interscholastic sports, including tennis and riding. The school has a theater, complete with costume shop, dance studio, music practice rooms, and the art barn with darkrooms and kilns.
