Description: Built in 1958 the hotel and its 100 rooms were totally renovated in 2009 and celebrated with a grand re-opening on November 2, 2009. Right in the thick of west Baltimore’s suburban business centers, the hotel is near the Social Security Administration headquarters, shopping, fitness centers, and tennis courts. The two-story building has exterior hallways, an outdoor seasonal pool (with lifeguard and you must provide a pass from the front desk), restaurant, and lounge on-site. Parking is free. Pets are welcomed with a $15 fee.

Description: This Quality Inn is located inside the Beltway, off South Caton Avenue, a stone’s throw from the I-95 and I-695 interchange, or about equidistant from BWI Marshall and downtown Baltimore. It has exterior corridors, an exercise room, and an outdoor pool that’s open seasonally. The hotel offers a stay and fly program for passengers going to BWI Marshall. The rate ($69 as of this writing) is modest as is the $5 per day rate to leave your car. However, they don’t offer a shuttle service to the airport, so you have to add the price of a taxi or shuttle to and from BWI Marshall.With two Quality Inn hotels (this one and the Harbor South near the Beltway) within a few miles of each other, make sure you know which one has your reservation.

Two shuttles run 24 hours a day for four hotels and will take you wherever you need to go within a 5-mile radius.

Description: The Westin opened in late 2007 with 260 rooms that feature the Westin Heavenly Bed, Heavenly Bath, and a flat-screen TV (all of which Westin assumes are essential to your comfortable stay). The WestinWORKOUT Gym, with cardio and free weight equipment, and a glass-enclosed lap pool are available to maintain your daily regimen. Luminous, a Pan-Asian restaurant with an indoor bar and an outdoor lounge, is on property. Pets, up to 40 pounds, are allowed with a $25 pet fee per room, per night. Shoeshine and dry cleaning services are available. The Westin has its own shuttle and shares a shuttle with the Sheraton.

Set in Southwest Baltimore, sometimes referred to as SoWeBo, the house faces the 1.3-acre Union Square Park that was established in 1847. The 1870 Guest House is a close walk to the B&O Railroad Museum, H. L. Mencken House Museum, and Hollins Market, which was built in 1836 and is Baltimore’s oldest market still in use. The third-floor suite features a queen-size bed, bath with tub and shower, AC, TV/VCR, and private phone. The kitchen is stocked with a substantial breakfast and guests may serve themselves at their leisure. Owners Frank and Dana Trovato suggest you ask them about “behind home plate” Orioles tickets.
