Description: Founded in 1983 by Dr. David Karpeles, the many Karpeles Manuscript Library Museums represent the world’s largest private holdings of historic manuscripts and documents, composed by people or groups who changed the course of history. The Shreveport branch is one of the most recent additions to this remarkable museum system. New exhibits appear approximately every three months, ranging from first editions of famous 19th-century authors to a collection of ancient copies of sacred texts. Other exhibits within the museum system in the past have included the Thanksgiving Proclamation of the United States signed by George Washington, and manuscripts from such famed scientists as Darwin and Galileo. Works of local artisans often are on display. A hidden treasure in the area that deserves much more recognition by the public. Open Tues through Sat, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
