Description: Shreveport has hosted a professional baseball team in some form or fashion since 1895, when the Shreveport Greys, named after one of the first Confederate volunteer units to join the Civil War, took to the field. The current team’s name recalls Henry Miller Shreve, who removed the logjam from the Red River and is considered one of the founders of the city. The team is a member of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball and is not affiliated with either the Major or Minor Leagues, but do not be deceived: the Captains deliver top-quality professional baseball. And with recent improvements to Fair Grounds Field Stadium, which can accommodate 6,400 cheering fans, attendance records continue to be set. With a season that starts in May and ends in Aug, the temperatures promise to be hot, but the low cost of attending a game will offset any ideas of discomfort. For instance, for $20, your child can join the Kid’s Club and be admitted to all 48 home games, and receive a 15 percent discount at the souvenir shop. So come enjoy America’s pastime and engage in the antics of the seventh-inning stretch.
