Description: A. C. Steere and real estate partner, Elias Goldstein, gave this park to the city to honor their daughters, Betty Goldstein and Virginia Steere. The Steere home, located at 910 Ockley, overlooked the park, allowing the philanthropist’s family to watch so many persons enjoy the facility. Recently undergoing a renovation, this 23-acre park has become a favorite place for birthday parties, family reunions, holiday cookouts, and avid joggers. A new playground facility caters to both toddlers and older children, and new trees have been planted to replace the live oaks and cypress that originally provided shade for visitors but succumbed to old age. A ½-mile jogging trail runs along the park’s perimeter, and three pavilions provide great spaces for all of those parties. The ball field, complete with a small set of metal bleachers, provides a space for baseball, flag football, and lacrosse. And be sure to pause for a moment and enjoy the wonderful Pink Ribbon tribute to all the women who have battled breast cancer. Betty Virginia Park is also a perfect location for dog walking, but you are encouraged to pick up after Fido should nature call. Parking is available on the Ockley Drive entrance.
