Shreveport Regional Airport - Getting Here, Getting Around - Shreveport, Louisiana

City: Shreveport, LA
Category: Getting Here, Getting Around
Telephone: (318) 673-5370
Address: 5103 Hollywood Ave.

Description: After an incredible 33-million-dollar renovation (actually a transformation), this airport became the modern, efficient way most travelers both enter and depart the city; over 500,000 did so last year. You will arrive at one of two concourses. The first services American and Continental Airlines while the other one welcomes all Delta and Allegiant Air passengers. As you walk toward the security checkpoints and the lower-level baggage claim, take note of the paintings by local artists hanging on the walls. You will notice the Lagniappe Restaurant after the security point. Need a little something extra to hold you over until you reach your final destination? Then look at the breakfast and lunch menu or grab a seat at the bar. Free high-speed wireless Internet is available in the cafe, the sitting areas in front of the restaurant, and in all the boarding areas. You will find two carousels in baggage claim. Oftentimes the electronic marquee that should display your flight number does not seem to be functional. Welcome to the game locals call “Guess Which Carousel”: stand somewhere between the two claim areas and wait until you hear a loud buzzing sound (similar to an air horn) and see a red flashing light at one of the stations; head in that direction. While waiting for your luggage, you might ask the person seated at the Information desk any initial questions you have or phone for a taxi, should you not see enough vehicles available outside. The airlines that fly into Shreveport are connected to hub cities, so do not be surprised if you fly into town on a small jet or turboprop plane. On Delta, you will be flying from Memphis International, Dallas-Fort Worth International (DFW), or Hartsfield-Jackson International in Atlanta. American will be based out of DFW, and Continental flies from George Bush Intercontinental in Houston. Allegiant Air flies direct to and from Las Vegas, but only on Thurs and Sat until additional days are added during the summer months.
