Description: Centenary College of Louisiana is a private, four-year arts and sciences college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1825, it is the oldest chartered liberal arts college west of the Mississippi River and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Centenary is one of 16 colleges and universities constituting the Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) and is regularly rated as one of the top colleges in the South. Interested in medical school? Centenary graduates enrolled in the premed program have a nearly 100% acceptance rate to medical school. Further, student-teacher research collaborations are a common occurrence, with students publishing papers and presenting research findings in regional and national forums. In addition to the more traditional programs one would expect at a fine liberal arts college, such as English, art, history, and religious studies, Centenary also offers the Hurley School of Music and the Frost School of Business, in addition to a stellar communications major. Athletics has always been an important aspect of campus life. The transition from D-I to D-III athletics allows student athletes, known as the Gents, the opportunity of compete with teams from similar schools while also achieving academic success.
