Caddo is home to seven Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence as designated by the U.S. Department of Education. Caddo also boasts many of the top performing schools in the state of Louisiana. As a school system looking toward the future, Caddo accepts the challenge of being the major architect of an improved city, parish, and state. More than 46,000 youngsters, from pre-kindergarten to 12th grade, learn every day from 3,600 teachers and administrators. The system’s total staff of 6,600 make it the largest employer in Caddo Parish. The district budget for all funds is over $350 million. The system has a total of 73 schools, five elementary/middle schools, 10 middle schools, 11 high schools, and six unique schools. Diversity is evident in both student population and school communities. The district covers 889 square miles and encompasses urban centers, suburban neighborhoods, and rural towns and communities. Caddo teacher salaries are regionally competitive and are consistently among the highest in the state. Attractive working conditions such as smaller class sizes, professional development opportunities, and community support make Caddo Parish public schools a top choice for many educators. The Caddo Parish School Board consists of 12 people elected by the public by districts to serve four-year terms. Its function is to establish and maintain the general procedures and policies of the school system and conveying these policies to the public at large.
