Description: Loyola University New Orleans, founded in 1912, is one of 28 Jesuit colleges in the United States and one of the largest Catholic universities in the South. Its rich history and Jesuit influence date back to the early 18th century, when the members of this religious order were among the city’s first settlers. The school’s 20-acre campus offers a mix of Tudor–Gothic and contemporary architecture, set off by broad expanses of greenspace and walkways, located on prestigious St. Charles Avenue in the university section of Uptown. The university’s 4,500 students include those from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and 49 foreign countries. Approximately 1,500 students live on campus.Offering more than 60 undergraduate degrees as well as 10 graduate and professional programs, the university stresses the Jesuit tradition of liberal arts education in all majors. The Loyola College of Music and fine arts is nationally acclaimed for the quality of its outstanding performance and music education curricula.
