Description: With its main campus located across the street from City Park, this community college is named for Isaac Delgado, a businessman who left most of his estate to found a trade school for boys in 1909. Old Isaac wouldn’t recognize the place today. Delgado currently is a state-supported, comprehensive community college educating more than 13,000 men and women at multiple locations throughout the New Orleans area. Delgado is the largest and oldest two-year college in the state and is widely recognized for its constantly expanding curriculum and involvement in community programs. Increasingly, students planning to seek four-year degrees find themselves spending their first two years at Delgado, where transferable credits cost just a little more than half of those at state universities. Along with core curriculum courses, Delgado offers more than 70 programs in allied health and nursing, early childhood education, business, technology, and skilled labor. The school also offers a wide variety of noncredit classes.
