Description: Baton Rouge’s only historical hotel, located downtown on the Mississippi River, offers 290 guest rooms that have been designed with contemporary comforts while maintaining the appeal of the building’s original facades. Built in 1927 as the Heidelberg Hotel, the building became a favorite haunt of Governor Huey P. Long. In 1931 the hotel briefly served as the state capitol during a dispute between Long and Lieutenant Governor Paul Cyr. The lobby and other public areas reflect the Art Deco motifs of the 1930s. The Kingfish Restaurant offers a delicious breakfast buffet. Lunch features soup and salad along with the a la carte menu. Dinner is a la carte. Executive suite rooms overlooking the Mississippi River have access to the executive lounge with a continental breakfast and evening reception. Ask for a tour of the hotel’s elaborate ballroom with spectacular views of the Mississippi. The hotel is adjacent to the Shaw Center for the Arts and two blocks from the convention center. Also nearby are the Old State Capitol, Louisiana Arts and Science Museum and Planetarium, and USS Kidd and Veterans Memorial. There is a $75 nonrefundable pet fee. Wheelchair-accessible bathrooms feature roll-in showers.
