Description: The Louisville Palace might be listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but there’s nothing old-fashioned about the presentations there. Touring Broadway shows, nationally acclaimed musical acts, and the latest in stand-up comedy are just some of the headliners that perform at this 1920s movie house jewel located near the heart of the Fourth Street Live! entertainment complex. You don’t have to buy tickets to enjoy the stunning details of architect John Eberson’s neo–Spanish Baroque masterpiece, however, because free tours of this, the Loew’s United Artists Theater, are available. The 2,700-seat theater itself is a sight to behold, with a deep-blue trompe l’oeil ceiling that re-creates an early summer evening over a Spanish village. The awe-inspiring lobby has a curved, vaulted ceiling graced with the sculptured faces of 139 historic figures, such as Dante, Socrates, Beethoven, and even the architect himself.
