Description: Founded in 2004 by proprietor Randy Smith, Destinations Booksellers is Southeast Indiana’s full-service independent bookstore. Located in New Albany’s East Spring historic district, the cozy shop strives to be a place where ideas are exchanged and the public is encouraged to attend a variety of events. In the rear of the building, the Dueling Grounds Cafe offers a range of coffee drinks and teas, in addition to gourmet soups and sandwiches. Destinations is also a part of IndieBound, a community-oriented movement started by the American Booksellers Association that strives to highlight the benefits of shopping locally. As Smith points out, “When you shop locally, you are supporting local economies.” For every $100 spent at a local business, $68 stays in the community; only $43 stays in the community when the same amount is spent at a big chain.
