Description: The tree-lined campus of Louisville Collegiate School lies in the historic neighborhood of the Highlands near downtown Louisville, located on Grinstead Drive just across from Cave Hill Cemetery. It was founded at 512 West Ormsby Avenue in 1915 as the first school in Kentucky dedicated to “preparing young women for college,” and in 1927 the school was moved to its current location because of the increase in enrollment and a lack of space. Today, the independent, nonsectarian, junior kindergarten through 12th grade school has gone coed, and has an enrollment of approximately 650 students. The school prides itself on its long tradition and a safe and invigorating environment where students can expand their knowledge, widen their worldview, and express their inner selves. Small class sizes ensure one-on-one attention as students pursue studies in a traditional curriculum. A number of Collegiate School teachers have received the prestigious Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching, in addition to National Endowment for the Humanities grants and fellowships from the Klingenstein Foundation.
