Description: One of the Derby Festival’s oldest and most-anticipated events is the Fillies Derby Ball, which caps the opening day of the Derby Festival and is a prelude to two weeks of exciting activities. It normally takes place on the Friday before Thunder Over Louisville, and the highlight is the coronation of the Derby Festival Queen, selected by a traditional spin-of-the-wheel. The mayor attends with a cadre of the who’s who of local businesses, and the Queen “knights” individuals to the Court of the Pegasus for their contributions to the community. The evening of pomp and circumstance begins at 6:30 p.m. with cocktails and is followed by dinner at 8:30 p.m. Individual tickets go for $150, and a corporate table of 10 runs $1,875.
